A Printing Story Traced From Cağaloğlu, the Heart of Publication World, Until Today

Being the administration center of Ottoman Empire with its streets smelling history, Cağaloğlu also smelled paper as Babıali Hill was the center of Turkish press for long years.

After 1870s Cağaloğlu became the center of Turkish Press. Throughout 20th century, the headquarters of the significant newspapers of Turkey were located in this district. Furthermore, printing houses, bookbinders and bookstores opened here.

Cağaloğlu was the cultural center of press and publishing. In these small businesses where all elements of press lived like a cluster, a commune, porters carrying loads on the saddles on their backs served as a bridge feeding the machinery operating among the inns and buildings.

In this conservative Cağaloğlu environment where you could find all what you would like to do in printing and publishing by virtue of labor-intensive relations, one workplace was binding, the other was printing and the relationship between them was again ensured by humans, the porters.

In the circumstances of those days, the printing houses were doing primarily letterpress printing. There were no integrated printing houses. In other words, there were no or just a few, only one or two, printing houses which offered both printing and binding at the same place. There were separate workplaces which offered graphics, printing or post-printing services. There wasn’t integrity in printing. Forms were printed at the printing houses, loaded on the saddles that were on the back of the porters and brought to binders. They were taken out from the binders also by carried on saddles. These were the conditions.

In the mid-1990s, the newspapers outgrew and slowly they abandoned this district. Printing houses and binders followed them in mass.

Since 1980 Until Today

From 1980 until today, we advanced by observing the changing tastes and the future with our adaptation to the changing technology. We gained experience by blending the interaction of different business lines with our continuously created new and fresh ideas.

60% of our personnel, who are expert in their jobs, have been working with us for more than 15 years. We know each other very well as a team and manage processes efficiently. Thanks to their experience, our team works to deliver the products to our customers within the time undertaken in terms of Acar’s quality and reliability.
